A Report to the Council and our Membership on NVN’s recent activities
A Month of Meetings, but a little work still got done "on the ground" in Napaimute.
The Meeting Month:
October is traditionally a month of meetings for Alaska Native Organizations and October 2009 was right in keeping with tradition. These are the meetings Napaimute’s leadership & administration attended:
• October 6th – Regular Monthly Traditional Council Meeting
• October 13-15th – 45th Annual Association of Village Council Presidents Convention
• Week of October 12th – National Congress of American Indians Convention
• October 21 - 2010 Census Alaska Native Village Conference
• October 22-24 – Alaska Federation of Natives Convention
See separate reports for more information about these important meetings.
Our Council President, Marcie Sherer was also kept very busy in her role as AVCP Executive Board Member for Unit 3 (the Middle Kuskokwim Villages) attending several E-Board meetings throughout the month.
In addition, Marcie was selected to represent Napaimute at the historic White House Tribal Nations Conference being held by President Obama in Washington, D.C. on November 5th. We are proud that Napaimute will be among the 564 federally-recognized tribes in the United States that have been invited to the Conference.
All of these meetings and the travel to and from them took up the bulk of our time in October but we did manage to get a little work done “on the ground” in Napaimute.
On the Ground:
Work we accomplished in Napaimute included:
• Completing the Septic Systems at the Airport Commercial Lots
• Stock piling winter wood for NVN’s buildings & winterizing equipment
• Producing additional firewood for the 2010 Firewood Business
• There was even a little spare time to gather personal-use firewood for our own homes before…..
…..the ice began running on October 13th and we enter a new season in Napaimute.
Thank you.
